# History

The Department of Applied Mathematics and Physics as well as the Applied Mathematics and Physics Course in the School of Informatics and Mathematical Science have produced 1,476 graduates in total in the 40 years since foundation.

## Applied Mathematics and Physics Course History

The Applied Mathematics and Physics Class, Faculty of Engineering of Kyoto University was established. The class was initiated with nine courses in total: six courses of applied mathematics, control theory, computer technology, design engineering, applied mechanics and nonlinear dynamics, and three common courses of industrial mathematics, industrial dynamics, and industrial mathematics 2. |

The School of Informatics and Mathematical Science Class, Faculty of Engineering was established. |

1987 |
The Department of Applied System Science, Graduate School of Engineering was established. |

1995 |
The School of Informatics and Mathematical Science, Faculty of Engineering was established. The Applied Mathematics and Physics Class and the Information Engineering Class were respectively reorganized into the Applied Mathematics and Physics Course in the School of Informatics and the Mathematical Science and the Computer Science Course in the School of Informatics and Mathematical Science． |

1998 |
The Graduate School of Informatics was established. |

Laboratories of the Applied Mathematics and Physics Course carry out research in the following 13 disciplines of the graduate school: Nonlinear Dynamics and Computational Physics, Nonequilibrium Physics and Theoretical Neuroscience, Computational Mechanics, and Industrial Mathematics (in the Department of Advanced Mathematical Sciences); Applied Mathematical Analysis, Discrete Mathematics, Optimization Mathematical Science, Control System Theory, Physical Statistics, and Dynamical Systems Theory (in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Physics); Adaptive Systems Theory, Mathematical Systems Theory, and Information Systems (in the Department of System Science).
